Basil in St James

A very unique and charming restaurant, the owner was very attentive.

They really go out of their way to make you feel at home. The cuisine is varied but mostly Mediterranean. We've eaten there several times and have never had an appetizer or Entree that wasn't tasty and well prepared. Intimate dining room setting. Highly recommended

We came from a meeting with our mortgage broker and decided to try this restaurant since we were parked right next to it...OMG what a great decision that was!!! Everything from the service to the food was exceptional. Already thinking about what to order the next time we return. Nothing negative to write about this place!!!

Excellent service and tapas are delicious..I had the strip steak and it was perfection. Highly recommend, and it is BYOB. I love that! You can enjoy the meal and be hustled on drinks.

Perfectly seasoned and cooked food. Warm atmosphere. Incredibly friendly, attentive, and gracious staff Excellent menu. BYOB only (which saves quite a bit of money😉)! Accepts credit cards. Wholeheartedly recommend and will certainly make Basil a mainstay! Truly think you will not be disappointed by this family run business.

This place has become my new favorite restaurant. I was so disappointed when Kitchen a Bistro closed in St James but Basil has definitely filled that void. The food is outstanding and fresh. The wait staff is attentive without being overbearing. They offer BYOB for beer and wine with no corking fee. My only critique of the place is being 6ft for the tables are a little tight.

I went with some friends from work for lunch. The food was delicious and the presentation of each plate was amazing. Everything was so delicious with a special touch of their authinticity. The staff were all friendly and the place is very cozy. I can't wait to go there again.

We love Basil. Especially the Persian dishes and bread pudding for dessert! But the whole menu is impressive. They definitely make you feel like valued customers.

Honestly, the best part of the meal was the appetizer. I should preface that I'm a vegetarian, but as a Mediterranean place I expected more than 3 options. I picked the only vegetarian pasta, a peppercorn mushroom pasta...I just cannot understand why, if you have only one vegetarian pasta, that would be your go to. It was inedible and barely touched. I truly felt like if I had taken a grinder of peppercorn and poured it straight into my mouth it would give you the same effect. I had two bites and I was truly sick to my stomach.

Good food service was ehhhh... bring your own drinks, mean while waiter is drinking a glass of wine... hmmm

First time at the restaurant but definitely won't be our last!! The food was delicious and so reasonably priced! Loved the BYOB! The owners are so nice and it was such a great evening! Can't wait to go back again!!

My sister and I have been coming here on numerous occasions. We just love everything about Basil ! The decor, intimate setting ...the food , from appetizers, entrees and desserts are always Fabulous...Service is outstanding, the owners are very Personable, always make you feel at home.Tonight we were celebrating my birthday and the Cornish hen was on point...the best I ever had.We will definitely be returning and looking forward to the outdoor opening.Thank you

I absolutely love this restaurant! The food is delectable. Everything is cooked to perfection, with so much attention to the presentation, and most importantly taste. To top it all off you are greeted warmly by the staff and the chef is wonderful. Such a precious hidden gem !

I frequent this outstanding place often because I like the good mood that is unique to this place. The crew is extraordianrillyremarkably cordial and skilfull. The service is very rapid. Not to mention, the food they prepare is first-rate. I frequent more than once and I was always joyful. The pay is modest. I suggest this place to to all.

This is my favorite little place!!The front end people may lack experience but they try hard so cut them a little slack. The food is wonderful. and the decor is beautifully done (they should get rid of the cheap "open" sign in the window, it looks totally out of place).They do not have a liquor license so you bring you own (no corkage) to me, that is a major plus!Give them a try. On a nice day you can eat on the deck in front and I recently discovered that they have a patio out in the back that looks good but I have not tried that yet but I will soon.Come on here and tell us what you think.

My wife and I along with our in-laws, had the pleasure of eating here on Friday. The food was delicious, I had the strip cooked perfectly, my wife had the salmon. Food and portions were perfect! Highly recommend! We’ll be going back again! Oh and it’s BYOB!

Excellent place. Attentive staff. Superb service. Delicious food and a little different from the old boring traditional long island menu.

First visit today. Was awesome. The crab cakes were unbelievable! The shrimp skewers were almost too pretty to eat. Felt like we went out of town. Very cozy and nice ambiance.

Everything we ordered was excellent. The service was great.

The food is good and the servers are attentive. I tried their lamb shank and it was good. It is a small place so tables are placed very close to one another. We could hear everyone’s conversation in that place. It is quite pricey.

So great. Delicious salmon and lamb shank bursting with flavors. The chocolate bread pudding cake was the best dessert I ever had. Wonderful in tune staff. We'll be back! St James locals!

I was completely enchanted by the ambience of Basil. Our waiter George was charming from the moment he approached us. He was attentive and made the visit very personal. One Great thing is that we are about to bring our own wine so George opened our bottle of Moscato and also put it on ice for us. The food was amazing. The presentation the taste the quality was all beyond what I was expecting. When it came to coffee and dessert that just sealed the deal for me. I had the apple blossom that made me put the apple pie aside and Want the apple blossom instead. Even when we asked George what kind of coffee they served he was so funny and modest about it all. Lol I will be changing my coffee lol. On our way out the owner stopped us wanted to hear how we enjoyed ourselves. Knew that we were new to Basil and took the time even though the place was full to find out who we were where we came from. The whole experience exceeded my expectations. I can’t wait to go back.

Pictured is the Caesar salad, Soltani and apple blossom. All 3 delicious, excellent food presentation. I've had my fair share of Persian food and this place does not disappoint. It was my first visit along with my girlfriend (an expert on Persian food.) Small and intimate setting. Beautiful interior design. I do see future visits (interested in their pasta selection.) If going for dinner, I do recommend calling ahead for reservations. Street parking only. BYOB. Friendly hostess and very helpful.
